Counselling provides a safe, respectful space where you set the pace and decide what we talk about. You’ll be invited to share your story and your perspective, and we can explore what feels most useful for you and your situation. Counselling can help you to:
Find ways to cope and live with loss or grief
Make decisions to move through difficult situations
See problems from a different perspective
Explore ways to help you live the life you want to live by working with your values

The number and frequency of sessions vary depending on your individual circumstances. Usually, after our first appointment, I’ll be able to recommend how many sessions may be most helpful. Cost and time can be important things to consider, so I’m happy to discuss arrangements that best fit your situation. For some people, meeting less frequently can be just as effective.
-
Individual sessions are $130 for 60 minutes. Couple sessions are $180 per 90 minutes.
If you are having financial difficulties, please call me to discuss possible arrangements.

I may take brief notes during and after each session. These notes serve as a record and helpful reminder for of key themes in our conversations. All notes are securely stored, and no verbal or written information about you will be shared without your consent. The exception to this is if you disclose a situation where there is serious risk to yourself or to others - this information may need to be shared with a third party, preferably with your consent.
-
Yes, you can. I can work with clients over video platforms such as Google Meet. It is a great alternative to in-person sessions if one of us is unwell for instance.

No, I cannot, because counsellors do not provide diagnosis or treatment plans for diagnosed mental health conditions. A clinical psychologist or psychiatrist can offer treatment plans and diagnosis.

A psychologist is a registered professional with advanced training in mental health, assessment, diagnosis, and can provide psychological testing and treatment for mental health disorders. A counsellor can assess, support, and provide counselling, and they may refer clients to psychologists or psychiatrists for diagnosis or specific treatment plans when needed. The term ‘therapist’ is broader and describes anyone who provides counselling or therapy - including psychologists, psychotherapists, and counsellors.

No, I am not currently a member of the New Zealand Association of Counsellors (NZAC). However, I follow their Code of Ethics and adhere to the exact same professional and ethical standards they promote.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a form of counselling that helps people handle difficult thoughts and feelings more effectively by teaching acceptance, mindfulness, and values-based action. Instead of trying to eliminate unpleasant emotions, ACT helps clients notice and make space for them, stay present, and take meaningful actions aligned with what matters most to them.
-
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is a counselling approach that focuses on improving emotional connection and bonding in relationships. It helps individuals or couples understand their emotional patterns, express their needs more clearly, and respond to each other in healthier, more supportive ways.
